I still haven’t been paid in full for Paradise campfire, still not able to live on the property either due to housing restrictions that was implemented… 7 years ongoing since the fire. The building codes that they want now are overkill with high-cost to triple the amount of approved regulated building material. My property not including the house alone was worth $90,000 now it’s only worth $24,000. Investors came through and bought up everything cheap… I refuse to sell no matter how many times I was offered. I’m not going to take $19,000 for a $90,000 property. The property clean up alone cost me $24,000.
Aloha from Maui . My husband has been here for 23 years and my roots trace back to the late 1800’s. Our daughter is fifth generation in the islands . We live with family on land without gridded amenities because we can not afford a rental anywhere on island . We are watching our friends and family leave by droves because they are unwilling to live in Costco carports like we are . Those who can afford to leave are , and those who can’t are sinking deeper into poverty while lawmakers are trying to pass legislation to make it illegal to live out of your car . I do not recognize my home . We are still reeling with grief from losing loved ones in Lahaina …. Yet new housing developments pop up Every Time we make a trip out to town . Mansions abound while most of my elders (70+) live in cars and trucks because their SS income can’t keep up . We feel unheard and unnoticed . Thanks for what you do hustle . I work in the affordable housing sector on Maui. It’s heartbreaking. Many are still homeless and many are about to be homeless due to the moratorium ending. We are still waiting on the settlement but the insurance companies want their money.
HUSTL, I’m predicting Nederland, Colorado is the next big fire. 47 of us up here no longer have insurance. They cancelled 47 of us so far in this small ski town. Eldora ski resort is just 10 minutes down the road. We got together in our Facebook group and i am not alone in feeling like we’re next. Before I could get a word out online; my neighbors said- “looks like we’re next. This is what they did in every area that burned just months ahead of devastation”. That was my next door neighbors comment, who also watches this channel. Pray for us. I feel something wicked this way comes.
